Cookie Policy
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files that a website saves in your browser. Websites also use similar technologies, such as local storage and session storage (small amounts of data saved in your browser) and service worker caches (copies of pages and images saved so the app works offline). In this policy, "cookies" covers all of these.
The law allows websites to use cookies that are strictly necessary to provide a service you've asked for, such as keeping you signed in, without asking first. For any other cookies, a website needs your consent.
Cookies we use
Strictly necessary
These keep Throttle working and secure. They can't be switched off, because the site wouldn't work without them.
| Name | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
throttle_sid | Keeps you signed in, protects forms against cross-site request forgery and remembers where to take you after you sign in | Up to 30 days, or until you log out |
throttle_2fa_device | Remembers that you trusted this browser, so it isn't asked for a two-factor code every time. Only set if you tick "Trust this device" | Up to 30 days, or until you remove the device in Settings → Security |
Preferences saved in your browser
These remember choices you make. They stay in your browser and aren't sent to us.
| Name | What it does | How long it lasts |
|---|---|---|
theme | Remembers whether you chose the dark or light theme | Until you clear your browser's storage |
announcement-dismissed | Hides a site announcement you've closed | Until you clear your browser's storage |
pwa:… | Remembers app choices on this device, such as whether you dismissed the install invitation | Until you clear your browser's storage |
pwa-launch | Notes that the app was opened from your home screen during this visit | Until you close the app |
Offline copies
If you install Throttle as an app or use it in a browser that supports it, a service worker saves copies of pages, photos and the files the site needs, so it can open quickly and show you something when you're offline. You can remove them by clearing the site's data in your browser or uninstalling the app.
Other services that load content
Some parts of Throttle load files from other services. They don't set cookies, but your browser connects to them, so they receive your IP address and browser details:
- Google Fonts, for the fonts used across the site;
- Cloudflare, which stores and delivers photos and videos;
- Google Maps and other websites, only if you follow a link to them (for example "Open in Maps" on a ride).
Our Privacy Policy explains more about these services.
Managing cookies
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser's settings. Here's how in the most popular browsers: Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge and Samsung Internet.
If you block or delete the strictly necessary cookies, you'll be signed out and won't be able to sign in until you allow them again.
Changes to this policy
If we start using a new cookie, we'll update this policy first and, where it needs your consent, ask for it. The version history at the end of this page lists what changed.
